Tips for Excursions/Trips in the Wallis/Fiesch Region

Winter Sports Enthusiasts
Tip: at https://www.aletscharena.ch/ you will find plenty of information about winter sports opportunities in the immediate vicinity of Fiesch. You can check which ski slopes, gondola lifts, and ski lifts are open, as well as which walking routes are available for a delightful winter walk.

For winter walkers: Buy a sport ticket at the train station, and you can enjoy unlimited train travel for one day in the Goms area (Fiesch-Oberwald). You can get off at any station, go for a walk, and then hop back on at any station of your choice.

Swimming
At the Sport Ferien-Resort Fiesch, within walking distance, there is an indoor swimming pool. In Brigerbad, there is a luxurious thermal swimming complex with indoor and outdoor pools, slides, etc. www.brig-belalp.ch.

The outdoor pool in Brig, Geschina, is a lovely and large swimming pool with a fantastic view of the Simplon. For the little ones, there is a toddler pool, and also slides, etc. The entrance fees are excellent! There’s a large sunbathing area and a decent small kitchen.

Italy
A great day trip is via the Simplon Pass. This route is very easy to drive with wide roads. Not feeling adventurous? Then take the Brig-Iselle car train, but that’s a bit dull. Our favourite: leave early, have breakfast on the Simplon Pass, and then continue driving to, for example, Mergozzo, Italy at its best—a beautiful town with a clear and clean swimming lake, canoes, and pedal boats for hire, loved by the Italians! Especially for the delicious ice cream at the Gelateria, located just to the right of the only traffic lights in the town. Mergozzo is a short distance from Lago Maggiore, which is much more touristy and busier, but where you can take lovely boat trips to, for instance, Isola Madre or Isola Pescatori, where motorboats are allowed.
